Psalm 18:2 (KJV)
The LORD
is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
I found myself between a rock and a hard place this morning. Before I could even get dressed for work, the enemy set traps for me to beco
me distraught and dismayed. I tried within myself to resist the urge to become frustrated and angry, however; I fell victim and succumbed to the antagonism. No sooner than my heart could say, ‘Lord, help me’, my mouth was pouring out a myriad of questions and comments in response to the blast of early morning texts. Why are you bothering me? Really? You don’t remember our agreement? Wow! You remember just what you want, don’t you? The questions went on and on, but these were questions that I could not use to reply to the person sending them because of the current role the person plays in my life. Instead, I spoke most of them aloud only making me seem a little off my rocker. Thankfully, no person was there to be a witness.
Then, in the midst of my outburst, the Holy Spirit gently reminded me to resist the enemy and he will flee from you. James 4:7 (KJV) says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” So, there it is. I kept feeding my frustration and anger because I refused to submit it (and me) to God so that He co
uld help me to resist the temptation from the enemy. I kept choosing my feelings and my will – not His.
We often think that being between a rock and a hard place is a negative situation. However, as I have now settled down, I realize that it doesn’t need to be if I choose to see the rock as THE ROCK. Then, I come to understand that the hard place is sometimes my own fault because I choose to stay in my will, in my feelings, in my whys and proceed to do things my way. I make it hard for myself by staying in the hurting place instead of running to The Rock. I don’t have to be stuck in between. All I need to do is choose one side or the other.
God is our Rock and our Strong Tower. We can run to him and be saved. He is ready to protect us from the onslaught of the enemy. Proverbs 18:10 (KJV) says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” He is the rock that will protect and cover us not a rock that will crush us. He is simultaneously full of strength and compassion. He is also full of might and mercy. He is the Protection and Peace that we so desperately seek.
Today, let’s
and chaos. In Him, we will find rest and freedom from the fiery darts of the enemy.
Lord, help us to choose The Rock when we seem to have no way out of the trouble or chaos in our lives. Help us to remember that The Rock is our strong and true foundation. You will not crush us, but You will give us rest and peace. In Jesus Name, Amen.
